Social Media Minute Podcast by RegEd: Google Reader - Last Call for July 1st Closing
Categories: Blog
Google shuts down its popular RSS reader service July 1st and there are some last minute decisions to make.
1. Find a new app or platform to aggregate the news sources you care about - we suggest Flipboard and Feedly
Flipboard works for the content consumer who intends to “flip” and read favorite content sources on a tablet (iPad and Android). Flipboard will import your Google Reader RSS to save it going forward, as well as continue to grow the web and social sources you review each day.
Feedly is more flexible because it accesses your news via the web browser on your computer. However, you users can still download the app for smart phones and/or tablets. Feedly will also import your RSS inventory from Google Reader.
2. Import your file from Google Reader before July 1st AND manually download your OPML file from Google Reader as a permanent offline backup of all the sources you aggregated in Reader. You can also import this file into an offline RSS reader app on a Windows or Mac PC.
